Onboard Credit Offers for Disney Cruise Line

As we expected, Disney Visa has extended their onboard credit promotion to 2013 sailings on the Disney Cruise Line®.  For those who make all payments on their Disney Cruise Line sailing with the Disney Visa or Disney Visa Reward Redemption Card, you will receive a $50 onboard credit from Disney Visa.  This is limited to two staterooms per Disney Visa account.  This offer cannot be combined with any other promotions, such as the onboard booking offer.  It can, however, be combined with the online booking offer, mentioned below, and the offer from Travel On A Dream.

While Disney Visa’s offer says it is for new bookings only, it will be applied to any existing bookings made for 2013 when the offer was not available.

For bookings made online, either directly or by your travel agent, before May 31, 2012, Disney Cruise Line is offering a $25 onboard credit.  Travel On A Dream agents always try to book your reservation online if possible to get you this extra spending money on your cruise.  This offer cannot be combined with any other offers, except for the Disney Visa promotion, if applicable, and the onboard credit offer from Travel On A Dream.

Contact us today to take advantage of these promotions.

What’s More Important: Best Onboard Credit Or Best Service

I must first of all clarify the headline here.  This isn’t always an either or and sometimes you will get a great onboard credit as well as great customer service.  But this isn’t always the case and you need to decide what is important to you.

Fairly frequently, I receive a request for a quote with the potential client asking up front “How much is your onboard credit?”  When I get those requests, I nearly always assume that person is looking only for the best onboard credit.  This is important to those traveling who are very comfortable with all aspects of their travel experience.  They have been on numerous cruises and don’t need assistance from a travel agent for selecting a sailing, a stateroom, a cruise line.  They should also be someone who is comfortable dealing with any issues that come up. That last point is the thing that many people don’t consider.  It’s the attitude that bad things only happen to other people.

Onboard Booking on Disney Cruise Line

Recently we have been hearing of changes to the onboard booking offer at Disney Cruise Line.  I had verified that a change took place, but what the new policy was exactly was not clear.  While onboard the Disney Fantasy this weekend, I went straight to the future cruise sales agents and got the scoop.

The onboard booking offer is still a 10% discount off prevailing rates, a stateroom credit based on the itinerary and reduced deposit of only 10%.  The offer is valid only on categories 4 – 11.  It is not valid for concierge categories, two night cruises, restricted categories or Disney Fantasy maiden voyages.  The reservation must be booked and deposit paid while onboard.  These restrictions have not changed.

Here is where the changes are.  Each household can book one date in the future, up to two cabins to receive the onboard booking offer.  In the past you could book the same number of rooms as the number of people in your cabin (if you had four in your room, you could book up to four rooms per date booked in the future).  Additionally, you can only book one future date to receive the onboard booking offer.  If you do want to book more cabins on the one date, you can do so and receive only the onboard credit offer (no discounts).

The only exception to the one date rule is for those booking back to back reservations.  If you want to book back to back, you can book more than one date and receive a discount on both dates.  Now don’t think this is a way around the rule.  If you ever change those reservations to no longer be a back to back reservation, you will lose the onboard offer on the second date.

I understand why there was a rule change.  Too many people were booking too many dates from many other people.  It’s disappointing when changes happen due to others abusing the system.  I just hope this doesn’t backfire though.  Many experienced cruisers like to have a “dummy date” or two available to get a discount on a Disney cruise in the future.  If you go onboard and have a future date that you want to book, you won’t also be able to book a “dummy date” for a future release.  Cruise lines want us to book early to guarantee the lowest prices.  Without having an extra “dummy date” available, I’m afraid people will wait longer to book their cruises until pricing comes down.

On the new form, you will be required to select a sail date, include your email address, category and dining preference.  You’ll also need to check if you want to use a travel agent (and include their name), vacation insurance, transfers and airfare.  Your onboard booking can be combined with Travel On A Dream’s loyalty program so be sure to check the box and add our name to your reservation request.

Gearing Up for New Year!

In less than six days we will be saying “Goodbye” to 2011 and “Hello” to 2012!  To celebrate, we are seeing a number of specials from different cruise lines.

Norwegian Cruise Line already has their Wave promotion in full swing.  This week, they are offering extra onboard credits, 50% off deposits and an e-coupon book for future sailings.  Seven night sailings have a deposit of only $125 per person and the deposits are refundable up until the final payment date in most cases so you have nothing to lose!

Royal Caribbean is offering a new special each day, but you need to act on them quick!  Each deal lasts only 24 hours.  We receive notification of the deal at midnight EST and then you have until 11:59 pm EST to book or it’s gone!  This is their Countdown to the New Year Sale.  Today, you can receive up to $50 onboard credit on sailings to the Bahamas and Caribbean Getaways before April 30, 2012.  Restrictions apply and time is limited so contact us right away to get yours!

Remember, in most cases you will still qualify for our onboard credit promotion in addition to the promotions offered from cruise lines.  Come visit us at Travel On A Dream today!
